Welcome to E. Hope Grove Writes – A Journey into Magic, Creativity, and Healing

Welcome to E. Hope Grove Writes, a space where storytelling, epic fantasy, and creativity come together to inspire and connect. This blog is more than a place to share my debut novel, Arys—it’s a reflection of my personal journey and an invitation for you to explore the transformative power of stories.

How Arys Began – My Writing Journey into Epic Fantasy

My love for storytelling started young, but it truly came alive in my sophomore year of high school. After reading Libba Bray’s A Great and Terrible Beauty, I became captivated by the idea of two worlds coexisting—an inspiration rooted in my childhood love for C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia.

Around the same time, The Lord of the Rings was making waves. I devoured the books, binge-watched the movies, and marveled at its intricate worldbuilding and epic battles of good versus evil. But my real turning point came earlier, in fourth grade, when I picked up Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It was the first book that truly hooked me, holding my ADHD-driven mind in its spell. Waiting for each new Potter book shaped my love for reading and planted the seeds for a dream I couldn’t yet name: to create worlds of my own.

At age 15, inspired by these beloved stories, I began writing the first draft of Arys which went on to win first place in a creative writing magazine contest. I wanted to create a tale where destiny, rebellion, and a powerful heroine came together. That dream simmered in my heart, waiting for the right moment to grow.

Why I’m Writing Again, 20 Years Later – Finding Healing Through Creativity

Life has a way of pulling us away from our dreams. Adulthood brought practicalities—work, bills, and the challenge of staying afloat. Writing felt like an indulgence I couldn’t afford. For years, I pushed it aside.

But after a divorce and a complete upheaval of my life, I found myself at a crossroads. I realized I needed something to heal, something to remind me of who I am. Writing became my lifeline—a creative outlet to process trauma, rediscover hope, and reconnect with my love for storytelling.

“F it,” I thought. “I’m going to write—not for money, but for me.” And so, I returned to Arys, not just as a writer, but as someone who deeply believes that creativity is a balm for life’s hardships.

I want this blog to reflect that belief: that through storytelling, we can heal, inspire, and find our way again.
